Healthy Hair Beauty Tips - Our Guest Blogger of the Day from Chilly Minnesota

Hey everyone, Apryl here!  I was asked to be a guest blogger for Lady Dragonfly and am SO excited!  I wanted to blog today about BEAUTY!  I am a cosmetologist from Minnesota and love hair and make up!  Lately I have heard from my guests 2 VERY important and awesome questions about HAIR!

Question 1:  How can I style my hair like my hairstylist does AT HOME?

If you leave the salon looking amazing and the next day you want to recreate the look for work and it's just NOT working?  Try these awesome tips AT the salon!
  • When making your appointment ask the receptionist to allow 10 - 15 minutes extra on to your cut for a styling lesson (most won't charge but ask if there is a charge just in case, and if there is, TALK to your stylist and ask if they can just give you a couple extra minutes to help you.  I doubt they would charge)
  • PAY ATTENTION!  I know you like to talk and share stories but if you aren't paying attention when she's applying products then you might miss something important.
  • If you don't like product in your hair or don't want to purchase any product let your stylist know to use the bare minimum or nothing at all and they will show you how to still get some cool results. It is still possible to get a little volume in your hair with out products!
  • OR ask your stylist to use only the products you have at home.  Do you have a mouse, firm hold hairspray, and pomade at home?  Ask her to only use those products!
  • If you love product and love to try new things, it's going to cost you.  As a hair stylist it's our job to get you to leave with a product (seriously).  We want you to get the most out of your cut and color but we're not trying to put you in debt.  Just because we show you 3 products we used doesn't mean you need to purchase 3 or ANY for that matter.  But if you HAVE to recreate the look you left with, purchasing the products we used is key.
Question 2:  With winter here, what can I do to keep my hair hydrated and healthy?

Winter is the harshest season of all on your hair.  Typically cold temps can cause breakage if your hair is not in a healthy state. Check out these recommended products and tips to help get the moisture and shine BACK in your hair!
  • Wash your hair every other day (or 2 if you can stand it!)!!!  SERIOUSLY!  It helps hydrate your hair with your own natural oils!!! Think your hair is too oily to do this?  Then try a dry shampoo in between washes!  Batiste dry shampoo is awesome because it comes in an aerosol can and distributes evenly!  The original formula is great for blondes because it comes out very light.  For darker hair there is Batiste Brunette and Batiste Black!
  • Do a conditioning treatment AT HOME!  An awesome professional product to use at home is MOROCCANOIL® INTENSE HYDRATING MASK! Moroccanoil is new to the professional product world and AH-MAZE-ING!  This particular hydrating mask will show you instant results!  Apply the mask, leave on for 2 – 5 minutes and rinse out!  Only use 1 – 2 times a week. So use at the beginning of your shower and finish your routine then rinse!
  • If you don’t want to purchase a professional product try your regular moisturizing/hydrating conditioner at home!  Only this time don’t do this in the shower.  Wash your hair in the tub/sink then apply a generous amount of conditioner in your hair.  Wrap in a towel and let it sit for 5 – 10 minutes then rinse OR use your hair dryer to heat up the conditioner a bit for an intense treatment!
  • Lastly, don’t over process your hair.  If you are a blonde, try lowlights on for size! I’m not talking zebra stripes, ask your stylist for fine natural lowlights that blend in with your blondes.  Giving your very light hair some pigment is allowing it to breathe!  Ask your stylist if they offer 10 foil highlights!  That way you don’t have to commit your entire head if you’re nervous or pay for a full foil.   My 10 foil highlights start at $29.99!  And don’t forget, color is an EASY fix!

I hope these tips will help you in the future to help you at home!
Happy Healthy Hair for the Holidays!
